| | WIllie Nelson - "Pretty Paper" | ] | We got in to Mom's place around 4 yesterday afternoon. Had a lovely Xmas eve dinner of cold shrimp, broiled scallops, steak and oven potatoes. Last night we watched come classic Xmas specials and had some strawberry daquiris and Rachel and I split a large bottle of St Feullien Cuvee De Noel.
Today I got up fairly early and Mom and I put the presents around the tree. Then we woke Ian. He was stunned by the sight of all the presents. As usual he got tons of stuff. He is happily playing with a number of those things now.
Tonight we are having a roast pork loin and home made mac-n-cheese. We have a bottle of Gulden Draak Vintage Ale that we are going to split and we will likely watch some more Xmas shows.
We were going to go to my Grandmother's house for a larger family get together this afternoon but the freezing rain is postponing that for everyone until tomorrow.
A pleasant Xmas this year. |

My Christmas spirit has been waxing and waning along with the intensities of my upper respiratory infection and my erratically spasming sacroiliac area. |

| In which I Bitch about Christmas Cards, Computers and Myself in General... |
[Dec. 20th, 2009|07:51 pm] |
Well, I think I may actually be *giving up* on sending Christmas Cards this year.
Since Ian came along, we've done photo cards. This year we planned to do the same thing, even taking some nice holiday-ish pictures of ourselves over Thanksgiving.
Then I left our camera at my parents. 2 hours away. No easy/convenient way to get the camera back other than a loooong road trip that I didn't budget time for.
Considered bribing my dad with food to drive it out to me, but my brother's Internet habit severely interferes with my ability to reliably get ahold of my parents. No go there.
I ask a good friend if we could borrow their camera...SURE! Ummm...they can't find it. (Hope it turns up eventually!)
Time is running out...but wait, my MIL is coming to visit for the weekend AND she has the same camera we have...SCORE! At this point cards probably won't get received until after Christmas, but hey, who cares. We get some GREAT pictures of Ian and of the three of us and I'm excited to put together our card for this year.
Except the computer won't read the camera.
Exact same model as ours. Connection OK. Check software. Reinstall driver. Do EVERYTHING I can think of. In the meantime, the computer if freezing and telling me things like "the other program is busy please switch to..." and generally acting like the POS doorstop that it will actually become after our NEW computer arrives in January. (Yes, it's already ordered...)
I won't see my folks until after Christmas.
At this point even if I were to buy regular old cards I would have to go nuts to get them out before Christmas, and I doubt they would arrive before Christmas. Not that I care that much about the timeliness, but after all that, I just feel disgusted.

| Snow Bum |

| | Band of Horses - "The General Specific" | ] | I am a little bit bummed about the snow today. This was to be the day of the Pittsburgh Ratebeer gathering. An opportunity to sample over 40 rare and unusual beers in the company of fellow beer geeks. I had been looking forward to this for about 2 months. Rachel was going to go with me. Mom had come in to babysit for us. But the snow nixed all of that.
Instead we have had a nice quiet day in. I made some funky cherry bread and Rachel made cookies. Cooking up some soup for dinner tonight - ham, potato & rice soup - yum.
I'll probably watch the Saints game on TV tonight and relax a bit. Even got in a nice nap. Nice day, just not what I had been hoping for.
Hope everyone is safe. |
